With the weeks of rain and April showers brimming over into May we did think the day might be hindered with bad weather but lo and behold the day was sunny and bright. It began well with the setting up of the gazebo’s which fitted into the gravel area perfectly, Jeanette jumped into action in the kitchen preparing fruit for the 'Pomms' drink (non alcoholic version of Pimms), then other helpers began arriving at 10.30am by which time most of the setting up outside had been done.
The potatoes quietly cooked away whilst helpers were being face painted with bees. Slow Lorris were the first to entertain us, they quickly struck a chord with onlookers and the public began to sway in time to the folk music.
The buzzer game was a magnificent hit with both children and adults. Lindsey Crowe was a big hit with the crowd as she hit the high notes and astounded with her singing prowess and natural confidence. She was quickly followed by Famous Potatoes so aptly named for the lunch time menu, they thoroughly enjoyed their free lunch and are hopefully coming again next year. There were also musical interludes from our own 'GT Pips' (Mick, Alan, Harriet & Sassy's Dad!) and a solo from Harriet.
The day ended on a tremendous high as the Maypole dancers swept around the Maypole and their laughter mixed with the folk music. The sale of plants and vegetables made an extraordinary £220.45. The only negative was when Christine missed her footing and had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance but thankfully she had no lasting injuries. All in all the day was a great success.
Thank you to all those who attended.
